Shadowrocket is purchased and installed through the App Store. Before buying, verify the developer, official icon, and app ID, then check the price and payment details. After installation, you’ll still need your own service information and VPN authorization. This guide covers first-time purchases and reinstalling on a new iPhone or iPad, from purchase and redownloads to updates and your first connection. Buying the app is not the same as paying for a service plan.
Before You Buy: Product and Cost
Shadowrocket is a paid app for Apple platforms, primarily used on iPhone and iPad. Compatibility with Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision, along with system requirements, is listed on the App Store product page. Shadowrocket is a closed-source commercial app, available exclusively through the App Store. Before purchasing, make sure your device can open the product page in your store, then review its compatibility details. Don’t rely on the name shown in search results alone.
Shadowrocket is sold for a one-time purchase. The price, currency, and taxes are shown on the purchase confirmation screen. The purchase gives you the right to use the app; it does not provide a server, subscription URL, or service-provider account. This guide assumes you already have your own provider and subscription. Get the subscription link from your provider, and keep it separate from your App Store purchase receipt.
Search and Verify: Don’t Stop at the Results
Open the App Store, tap Search, and enter the full product name Shadowrocket. Search results may include apps with similar names or icons, so open the product page and verify the details there. If you can’t find it, visit our App Store availability and purchase guide, then use its store link to open the product page.
- Developer: On the product page, verify that the developer or provider is
Shadow Launch Technology Limited. Don’t mistake a search term or app subtitle for the developer’s name. - Official icon: Look for the rocket icon on a white background with a blue-purple outline. The icon is only one way to verify the app; a similar-looking icon is no substitute for checking the developer and app ID.
- App ID: Use the product page’s share option to copy the link, then check for
id932747118. The link may include a store-region path or parameters; identify the app by this fixed ID. - Compatibility: Expand the compatibility details on the product page and make sure your device meets the requirements. Always refer to the App Store page for system requirements.
If the product page says the app isn’t available in your current store, check the store and account settings for the Apple Account you use with the App Store, and follow Apple’s instructions. Your system language, network location, and store region are separate settings. Repeatedly changing your search terms won’t resolve an availability notice on the product page.
Pay and Install: Follow the Confirmation Screens
Once you’ve verified the app, tap the price button. Before buying, check the current App Store account, displayed price, and payment method. You may be asked to authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your account password; follow the prompts on your device. Authentication, a payment notification, and a completed installation are separate steps—the app still needs time to download from the store.
-
Check Your Account
Open the App Store and tap your account profile picture to confirm which account you’re using for the purchase. If you’re signed in to other Apple services with a different account, use the account currently shown in the App Store.
-
Verify the App
Return to the Shadowrocket product page. Check the developer, official icon, and app ID 932747118, and confirm compatibility before continuing.
-
Confirm the Payment
Tap the price button, review the app and amount on the system purchase confirmation screen, then authenticate as prompted. If payment fails, first address any account or payment message shown by the system.
-
Wait for Installation
Keep your device connected to the internet and wait for the download to finish. When the product page shows Open, you can launch the app there, from the Home Screen, or from the App Library.
-
Keep Your Receipt
Make sure the app opens, and keep Apple’s purchase receipt. To check an order later, use Purchase History for your App Store account—not an order from your service provider.
If the button stays on Waiting or the download stops progressing, check your network, available device storage, and any App Store account alerts. If you’ve received a payment record but the product page still shows a price, check Purchase History to confirm the order and account before taking further action. Don’t troubleshoot by repeatedly purchasing the app. Payment processing and the app’s internet connection are separate; connection settings in the app won’t fix an App Store payment issue.
Redownload a Purchase—Don’t Pay Again
If you’ve changed devices or deleted the app, open the App Store using the account that made the original purchase. Here, “restore” usually means redownloading an app you bought; it doesn’t restore a service-provider subscription or necessarily recover all local settings. Account menu names can vary by system version. Look for either of the following paths.
- Open the App Store, tap your account profile picture, then go to Apps → My Apps. If your interface still shows Purchased, open Purchased → My Purchases and search for Shadowrocket.
- Find Shadowrocket and tap the cloud download button. Wait for installation to finish. Alternatively, open the verified product page and check for a cloud download button or Open.
- If the page still shows a price, open system Settings → Apple Account → Media & Purchases and check the account used for media and purchases. It may differ from the account used for other services on your device.
- In the App Store, tap your account profile picture and open Purchase History to find the original order. If it isn’t listed, first check the account, date range filters, and any store messages before deciding what to do next.
Automatic Updates: Check the System Setting and App Store
Automatic updates are managed in the system’s App Store settings, not in Shadowrocket’s Settings. On newer iPhone and iPad systems, go to system Settings → Apps → App Store → App Updates. If your system doesn’t have an Apps menu, check Settings → App Store → App Updates. Menu names vary by system language; you can also search for App Store in system Settings.
- Turn on automatic updates: Enable App Updates. Cellular download options are separate; choose them based on your data plan. You don’t need to enable every option just to get app updates.
- Check manually: Open the App Store, tap your account profile picture, and pull down to refresh the account page. If Shadowrocket appears in the list of pending updates, tap Update.
- Confirm completion: Wait for the update to finish before launching the app. If the product page shows Open, there’s no installation waiting to run from that page; it doesn’t mean an update just completed.
- If an update doesn’t run automatically: Check available storage, your network, account verification prompts, and system download restrictions. Turning on automatic updates doesn’t guarantee that an update will run immediately.
App updates and Subscribe updates are different. App Store updates change the client itself; Subscribe updates retrieve server information from your provider using the in-app subscription feature. A successful App Store update doesn’t mean your subscription is valid, and a successful subscription refresh doesn’t mean the app is up to date.
First Launch: Add Your Service, Then Set Routing and Allow VPN
After opening the app for the first time, get familiar with Home, Config, and Settings. Home shows your servers and connection status; Config lets you choose and manage configurations; Settings contains app preferences. An empty list doesn’t mean the purchase failed—it means you haven’t added your own connection details yet. Buying the app alone doesn’t provide a server address, authentication details, or an active service.
- In the top-right corner of Home, tap
+, then open Add Server. Set Type to Subscribe, enter the subscription link from your provider in URL, and save. The full link is sensitive information; don’t share it publicly. - Return to Home and check whether the subscription has expanded into a server list. To refresh it, use the subscription’s update action or pull down on Home. If no servers appear, check that the link is complete and hasn’t expired, and review the information returned by your provider.
- Select an existing server, then check Global Routing. If you select Config, first confirm which configuration is active in Config, and review its rules and final handling behavior.
- Turn on the connection switch in Home. The first time you connect, the system will ask to add a VPN configuration. Confirm the request is from Shadowrocket, tap Allow as prompted, and authenticate on your device if required.
- After connecting, test access to the same page you were trying to open. If it fails, check the connection status, server details, and rules separately. VPN authorization from the system doesn’t guarantee that the remote connection will succeed.
Global Routing determines how Shadowrocket routes traffic it handles. The modes below describe routing behavior in Shadowrocket only. Whether Config behaves as expected depends on its actual rules; its name alone doesn’t tell you whether a type of traffic will go direct or through a proxy.
Config
ConfigRoutes requests according to the rules in the currently selected configuration. Check the rule order and FINAL before use. This mode is recommended for everyday use with a verified configuration—not for blindly selecting when no configuration is set up.
Best for: Routing traffic by rule with a verified configuration
Proxy
Routes traffic handled by the app through the proxy path. Use it for a short comparison with Config. It won’t fix an incorrect password, invalid address, or remote service outage.
Best for: Checking whether routing rules explain differences in access
Direct
Routes traffic handled by the app directly. After switching to Direct, don’t judge results based on what you’d expect from a proxy exit.
Best for: Comparing access over your local network without a proxy
Scene in Global Routing lets you configure routing behavior by scenario. You don’t need to add scene switching when connecting for the first time. Settings → On Demand controls connections on demand and isn’t required for purchasing or initial verification. First connect manually to verify the service and configuration, then set up automation separately. This makes it easier to identify which setting caused a problem.
Common Questions After Purchase
I’ve paid, so why is Home still empty?
Your purchase covers the app only. Open Home → + → Add Server and add your own service details. If you use a subscription, set Type to Subscribe. Get the link from your provider; the App Store doesn’t add a server automatically after purchase.
I switched to an iPad. Why am I seeing a price again?
First, make sure the App Store account matches the one used for the original purchase. Then look for Shadowrocket under Apps or Purchased from your account profile picture, and check Purchase History to verify the order. Refer to the App Store page for compatibility and system requirements. Don’t buy again until you’ve checked the order.
I allowed VPN access. Why can’t I open a webpage?
VPN authorization allows the app to establish a system connection. In Home, check that a server is selected, the connection switch is on, and Global Routing is set as expected. Then verify your subscription. If Config and Proxy behave differently, check the rules in Config first. If both fail, check the server details and local network.
Automatic updates are on. Why does it still show Update?
The system may not schedule an automatic update right away. Open the App Store, tap your account profile picture, pull down to refresh, and tap Update manually. If the update won’t finish, check available storage, your network, and any account alerts. App updates aren’t managed in Subscribe settings.
